Fat chance!

I couldn’t resist the play on words. Found via Instapundit, a Sacramento Bee article challenges our thinking about fat in our diets: “…it turns out a high-fat diet can actually help you lose weight, gain energy and fight obesity-associated conditions such as diabetes.”

Points:

  • “Our bodies are not designed to process all the refined sugar most of us consume today – on average about 150 grams of sugar daily, or 15 times the amount consumed prior to the Industrial Revolution.”
  • “Compared to sugar, fat is burned more efficiently by the energy-producing component of the cell known as the mitochondria.”
  • “It’s not just that sugar is bad for you, but dietary fat is actually vital for survival.”

Some books on the subject:

My ANWA-certified counterpart in Atlanta, Molly Lay, and I partnered with LEKI USA to host a booth during the Senior Games in Birmingham, AL, June 2-11. We’ll be giving away LEKI equipment and accessories and demonstrating the great sport of Nordic walking.
