Vacation travel during the pandemic era

Bottom line: they talked about how "to get a handle on how they're traveling this summer, what questions they're asking ahead of trips, and how—with not a minute to spare each day—they're finding time for themselves."

Points:
  • "...the bigger question is, 'How are you going?'"
  • For vacation homes, "making sure 100 percent that it has a washer dryer...able to have the option for delivery for groceries."
  • When driving, "thinking about how far we're willing to drive, can we drive that far without having to stop for gas multiple times? Without the kids needing a lot of bathroom breaks where we're going to be going in and out of stores?"
  • "...it's a different mentality of, do we need the trip? Do we need it for our mental sanity or emotional safety or health?"
  • "...how do we do the trip in a new way that maybe isn't in the same budget that it was in the past, but also offers a lot of stimulation?"
  • "...our national parks system, our state park system has just, I feel, done an amazing job of providing the tools for kids to be able to engage."

Tour de Friends: Nordic Walking Watford

Let's take a Tour de Friends and meet fellow Nordic walkers! Meet Nordic Walking Watford. You can find them in Watford, Hertfordshire, England and online at:

Let's get to know Nordic Walking Watford:

  • What is a favorite group excursion? Summer Solstice Walk What makes it a favorite? I love sunrise, favourite time of day and it’s a popular walk.
  • Do you have a memorable/funny/poignant story you can share about your group? When I was a newly qualified instructor, I completely forgot to guide everyone through adjusting their poles so everyone was walking really strangely…
  • Could you share some advice to Nordic walkers who would like to start a local Nordic walking group? Make that call – we have all been the new person, even the instructor – and we have followed the same path that you want to walk.

  • Could you share some advice to Nordic walking groups about how to keep the group going? Make people feel they belong, they are part of something special – send birthday cards, remember to ask about children, holidays etc.
  • What are some life lessons people have learned as a result of Nordic walking? Never judge a book by its cover. More is in you.
